When and where?

Barry/Vale Friends of the Earth meet on the First Tuesday of each month, at 7.30pm, in the 'Cavan' of the Castle Hotel, Jewel Street, Barry.

About this group

For ten years we have worked with Dow and other local Chemical companies to improve their environmental responsibility. Three years ago, we suggested they build a nature reserve next to their chemical complex and today this is going ahead. We have successfully worked to opose the development by 'Crofton's' of hundreds more houses in the rural Vale of Glamorgan. The Barry Friends of the Earth Local Group comprises people from all walks of life and all ages.

What's going on

Barry Friends of the Earth are working on Airport expansion issues, as we have Cardiff Wales Airport and RAF St Athan in our area. We have and will continue to work hard to prevent a Green Field Trunk Road or any other large and unnecessary roadworks to this regional airport and are campaigning to raise awareness on air fuel tax.
We are working with local people on issues surrounding Aberthaw Power station, our local 'Carbon Dinosaur'.
We are working to support off-shore windpower developments in South Wales. We are opposing quarry developments in the Wenvoe Valley and will be joining the 'Friends of Central Park', in the rejuvenation of this area, after a twenty year decline. We have just succeeded in seeing off Tesco from Town, for the first time!
The group would be glad to meet you and discuss any environmental issues you would like us to take up, local or global.
