EU abandons aim to avoid dangerous climate change

The European Commission will on Tuesday publish a low carbon roadmap that, if followed, is virtually certain to lead to dangerous climate change. They won't say that of course, but a Friends of the Earth analysis of their figures (which were circulated widely in advance) suggest that it would give only a 5 per cent chance of avoiding a global average temperature increase of 2 degrees and is more likely to lead to a 3 degree rise. A 3 degree rise would probably lead to the irreversible melting of the Greenland ice sheet and sea level rises of 5 meters or more and possibly spell the demise of much of the Amazonian rainforests.

In 1996 the European Commission was first off the blocks in stating that the world should avoid a 2 degrees global average temperature increase in order to prevent dangerous climate change.

One could speculate on the reasons why this change is happening. But that really isn't the point. The point is that the European Commission wants to put us on a path to dangerous climate change.
