Jim'll fix the food chain21 April 2011
Remind Jim Paice of his commitment to deal with the damage caused by factory farms.
I do want to make sure Defra plays its part [in making meat and dairy sustainable]... we will produce a one year on report on progress.
Farming Minister Jim Paice, Friends of the Earth Livestock Symposium, March 2011
Successful symposium event
At our Livestock Symposium, farmers, the food industry, NGOs and the Government came together to work out how to:
- get soy out of factory farms
- ensure farmers are supported to move towards planet-friendly farming
- promote healthier low meat diets
At the event Jim Paice promised a progress report one year on from the event.
Three months on
It has been three months since the event. The Government has missed key opportunities
- They didn't include anything about imported soy in their new standards for public sector food.
- They reitereated the damage soy causes in their Natural Environment Whitepaper but have made no commitment to action.
