Fix the Food Chain10 September 2009
Factory farming demands massive amounts of soy - a key ingredient in animal feed. Most of this comes from huge soy plantations in South America. Vast areas of land have to be cleared to grow the soy, causing deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions and the loss of valuable wildlife habitat.
The hidden links
Millions of pounds of UK taxpayers' money are being used by Government to prop up the factory farming system. That means that your money is being spent on an industry that gives a raw deal to UK farmers and consumers, and is pushing the planet to the brink of runaway climate change.
We want the Government to revolutionise the way we produce meat and dairy in this country and support home-grown animal feeds and low-impact meat and dairy production instead.
Please ask your MP to call for their own party to commit to tackling this problem. We are asking them to do this by pushing for our key demands to be included in their party's manifesto which will commit them to action.
We need to up the pressure now to make sure that they are committed to fixing the food chain.
Take action now.
