Why tackle climate change?27 March 2012
Climate change is real and it's happening now. We'll help you get to grips with the issues.
Climate changed is caused by
- Pollution in the atmosphere
From things we do - Old economics
Our money encourages more of the same - Injustice
It affects the poorest people most - Trashing of forests
They're vital for people and the planet.
Rapid global warming is also bad news for millions of plants and animals. The science shows that it's our fault - but we can also be the solution.
Of course, the poorest people don't need science to tell them. Millions are already suffering the effects.
But ultimately we all stand to lose. It's much riskier to do nothing than to act now.
If 9 out of 10 pilots said a plane was going to crash who would be daft enough to fly in it?
Tackling climate change is a win win scenario. It has massive benefits for:
- The economy and jobs
- Energy security
- Homes and our health.
Many governments and millions of people already know this - and are getting on with it.
But we need to do more - and faster. That's where Friends of the Earth comes in. By joining with millions of other people through us, you can put pressure where it matters.
