Councils of all colours sign up to get serious

Bristol City Council have signed up to Get Serious About CO2.

Councils from each of the three main political parties now support the campaign.

This is our chance to nail our colours to the mast and show that this council really is serious about climate change and about reducing our role in it.

Friends of the Earth local groups from around the country have been campaigning to get their council to Get Serious About CO2.

Bristol Council voted unanimously to cut emissions from its area by 40% by 2020 and support the campaign.

Support has been rising across the country. Bristol Liberal Democrat run Council joins:

• Harrow council
  Conservative controlled
• Haringey council
  The Labour council got serious in October 
• Harrogate
  With a Conservative majority

who have already been getting serious about CO2 following pressure from Friends of the Earth groups.

70 000 green jobs could be created from fitting green energy and insulating homes alone.

The Get Serious About CO2 campaign is calling on every council to do its bit on climate change.

Councils have a big say in the UK's carbon emissions - from how we heat and power our homes to how we get around.

We're calling for all councils to:

• Cut CO2 by at least 40% CO2 by 2020
  and produce a climate change action plan
• Get more money and less hassle
  To fit more green energy, improve transport and insulate homes
• Be given a carbon budget
  So every area plays its full part in cutting emissions.
