17 September 2009
Responding to new climate change stats revealing the carbon footprint of every local council in the country, Friends of the Earth’s Senior Climate Campaigner Tony Bosworth said:
“These new statistics highlight the need for every local authority to get serious about tackling climate change.
“Councils have a big say in how we heat and power our homes and how we get around.
“While carbon emissions have fallen in the majority of council areas, they have actually risen in others and most councils could do far more to cut emissions.
“The Government must set a minimum requirement for action on climate change and ensure that cutting CO2 is a central policy for every local authority.”
