Call for a fully-charged Energy Bill

Dear Mr Anderson,

The Government's Energy Bill is an important opportunity to drive the transition to a low-carbon economy. But more must be done to deliver the energy efficiency measures needed in our homes and communities to help meet Climate Change Act and fuel poverty commitments. I am disappointed by the Government's inadequate minimum energy efficiency standard amendment, which is far weaker than the amendments already tabled by Tessa Munt MP. As my local MP and a member of the Energy Bill committee, I am writing to ask you to add your name to and vote for the following amendments: 1. Ensuring every council does its bit on climate change New Clauses NC1 and NC2, to: * Create clarity: Ministers should ask the independent Committee on Climate Change to advise on what councils need to do in their patch to help meet UK Climate Change Act targets * Ensure local climate action is a priority: councils should have a duty to draw up local climate change plans - showing how they will roll out green policies in line with the expert advice 2. Action to protect tenants from the coldest rented homes New Clauses NC24, NC25, NC26 and NC27 Amendments 121-127 to existing clauses 40, 42 and 43 A minimum energy efficiency standard for private rented homes by 2016 - getting tougher over time. And protecting tenants from unfair eviction for asking for a green upgrade to their homes. 3. A nationwide Government plan to insulate all homes - not just the easy ones The Warm Homes Amendment: NC8, NC9 and NC10. A comprehensive Government strategy to retrofit the nation's homes - including harder to insulate and poorer households. With policies to help meet UK Climate Change Act and fuel poverty commitments.
