Help councils act on climate19 March 2009
Is your council serious about climate change?
If your council takes action to tackle climate change, it will:
- Boost the local economy
- Create jobs
- Slash your fuel bills
Councils are key
Councils have a big say in how we heat and power our homes and travel.
They could do much more to cut CO2 right now, such as:
- insulating homes
- installing green energy
- cutting traffic
Serious commitment needed
Friends of the Earth is campaigning for councils to cut their carbon by at least 40 per cent by 2020.
But these cuts would be much easier if they had more support from national government.
MPs can help
MPs can make local action on climate easier by supporting a key change to the Local Democracy Bill.
The Bill is being debated in parliament now.
If amended it could give councils better information about their carbon emissions and help them balance:
- Cutting emissions and
- Planning for a green economy
Take action
Email your MP today to ask them to support local council action on climate.
Thanks for your interest, but this action has now expired.
