Help break the silence on carbon cuts
10 May 2011

The Government must speak up on plans for carbon cuts in coming decades.

In December independent experts advised the Government on how fast to cut carbon over the next decades.

Five months on there is still silence from David Cameron and his team.

Acting on CO2

Friends of the Earth supporters led the campaign for a new climate law in 2008.

The Climate Change Act commits the UK to reduce green house gas emissions to 20% of 1990 levels by 2050.

But we can't wait forty years before we act. Emissions must start falling immediately.

Expert advice

An independent scientific body - the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) - advises Government on how fast emissions should come down.

But so far their latest advice has been met with silence.

Eating his words?

This is what David Cameron said in 2008 about targets for cutting carbon:

An independent body should set and enforce these targets and be able to adjust them in the light of circumstances. That would take the politics out of climate change

So why has his Government ignored the advice for 5 months?

Take action

Ask your MP to tell David Cameron to accept experts' advice and keep politics out of Climate Change.
