Tell Chris Huhne his reply to our petition isn't good enough

Over 10,000 people recently signed our petition for local carbon cuts.

Energy Minister Chris Huhne has responded - and his reply shows that he just doesn't get it.

He claims that proper advice for councils is a luxury we probably can't afford.

He's wrong. Advice is cheap - much less than the cost of clearing up after climate change.

Mr Huhne also says our supporters 'will appreciate' why the Government may not act.

We're not so sure you will.

Dear Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change,

Thank you for responding to over 10,000 Friends of the Earth supporters who contacted your department, asking for advice for councils from the independent Committee on Climate Change. You say you think people 'will appreciate that in this tight financial climate' advice for councils may not be possible. To be honest, I don't. I want my local council to do its bit on climate change - like you I think council action is 'vital'. Spending a relatively tiny sum of money will create clarity for councils about what scale and type of action they need to take. I understand that you haven't made a decision yet. You have the opportunity to make a real difference by unlocking local green potential. Please seize that opportunity.
