Do you remember the earthquakes in Lancashire in 2011?

They were caused by fracking - a risky method of extracting gas from the ground by pumping in vast quantities of chemicals and water.

The company that caused them has new plans for more fracking in Lancashire, including the country's first horizontal drilling attempt.

Please tell Lancashire County Council that you don't want fracking in the county

Pressure from us could be enough to stop their plans.

If these plans go ahead, they risk more earthquakes, water contamination and air pollution.

Also shale gas is a fossil fuel, which will contribute to dangerous climate change.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Application numbers 08/12/1032, 05/12/0003, 05/12/0728, 05/13/0021 I am writing to object to the above applications by Cuadrilla Resources Ltd to extend planning permission for test-drilling and fracking in Becconsall, Singleton and Westby, Lancashire, and to carry out horizontal drilling at the Anna's Road site, Westby. I believe that fracking poses serious risks to human health and the local environment and the precautionary principle should be applied. A recent report for the European Commission identified water contamination, water resource depletion, air pollution, biodiversity impacts and noise as high risk concerns. The sites are near the protected Ribble Estuary RAMSAR site, an internationally important habitat for wildlife including wintering wildfowl. There are also economic risks to the important farming and tourism sectors in Lancashire. I further believe that the extraction and use of shale gas will make it much harder to meet our legally-binding climate change targets and fulfill commitments in the Lancashire Climate Change Strategy. Lancashire County Council says it has an important role to play in tackling climate change. As such it should be promoting expansion of renewable energy rather than the extraction of more fossil fuels. Investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency will secure a clean and green energy supply for the future and create thousands of new jobs for the county and across the UK. Please keep me informed of the progress of this application and opportunities to comment further.
