At university we noticed someone had left a tumble drier on the pavement, presumably for collection by the council. We saved them the bother.
Safely installed in a friend's room, we began advertising 50p loads.
Not only did this create steady income (we were neatly undercutting the college drying operation) but also tropical levels of heat and humidity in an ordinarily freezing room. Within 2 days the cleaners had it removed - the 'occasional table' disguise wasn't as good as we thought.
I think we made about £3.50 in total.
