Give wind farms a chance26 September 2012
A storm's brewing over the future of wind farms in Wiltshire.
Earlier this year Wiltshire council adopted a new policy to impose separation distances of up to 3km between wind turbines and houses. This effectively rules out any windfarm developments across the whole of the county.
The sudden change in local planning policy was fast-tracked with no prior consultation, denying the opportunity for communities to have a say.
Currently no evidence exists to support this new policy.
The Government has made clear that:
The approach to wind turbine development in the UK is to assess the potential impacts of proposals on a case by case basis...for example possible impacts of noise and shadow flicker on [nearby] dwellings.
If Wiltshire council are allowed to do this then other councils could follow.
Consultation on this new policy is now open to the public and closes on 1 November 2012.
Please join us in putting an end to this unfair and unreasonable policy and say yes to clean renewable energy.
