I would like to express my concern over the actions taken by the Swedish delegation at the UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP). As current President of the EU Council, Sweden speaks on behalf of Europe. As such it is entirely irresponsible for the Swedish delegation to: - Undermine the role of developing countries at the negotiations. - Block negotiations on fair Kyoto Protocol targets - Push for an EU target of 20% emissions cut when the EU position is 30% cuts if others do the same. Developing nations in Africa and around the world are already experiencing the worst affects of dangerous climate change. Their voices should be heard and respected just as any developed and industrialised nations voice should. Climate science states that we need emissions cuts of at least 40% by 2020 on 1990 levels, yet Europe has not yet even agreed a 30% emissions cut target. There should be no mention of a mere 20% cut in the ongoing negotiations, especially under the guise of EU Council President. Please stop standing in the way of a fair deal at the Copenhagen climate talks. The world is watching.
