Support Swinford windfarm
28 July 2008

A new windfarm is proposed for Leicestershire between the villages of Swinford and Walcote.

The Swinford site was chosen due to its good wind resource, accessibility to the electricity grid, and its environmental suitability.

Did you know?

The eleven turbines will supply the average electricity demand of around 14,000 homes.

Clean and safe solutions

The UK has committed to new EU energy targets to generate 15% of all energy from renewable sources by 2020. To meet its share the UK must make use of our abundant supplies of wind energy.

Approving projects like the one is vital if we are serious about meeting these targets.

Let's make it happen

Local authorities should make a decision on projects within 16 weeks, but having waited nearly a year the developer has appealed to the Secretary of State.

This proposal is supported by local people from the Pro Wind Alliance and Leicester Friends of the Earth. They are campaigning for a safe future for everyone in the area.

Please join them in calling on the Planning Inspector to approve the project and put an end to council dilly dallying.

Find out more about the proposal at the developer's website.
