Our solutions30 March 2010
Friends of the Earth is campaigning for:
Environmental tax reform
Increases in taxes on pollution should be used to cut taxes on people and jobs.
Businesses should have tax breaks to encourage them to invest in energy saving and renewable power.
Internationally, we want to see Robin Hood taxes on financial speculation and taxes on aviation - among other things.
This money would be used to help developing countries grow cleanly and adapt to climate change.
Spending reform
We want the Government to cut road building and spend more on trains, buses, cycling and walking.
The UK Government needs to use its clout to get the World Bank and other bodies to stop funding fossil fuel and mining projects.
Green investment
We are campaigning for a strong UK Green Investment Bank to promote the funding of renewable power and energy efficiency.
Did you know?
The market for low carbon products should be worth $500 billion a year by 2050
Clear rules
We're campaigning for:
- Tougher laws to limit the UK's contribution to climate change
- A global carbon budget. This will limit the climate change gases each country pumps into the atmosphere
- Polices to promote efficient use of the world's natural resources such as wood and metals
