Be a trade hero
12 January 2009

Global economic rules aren't working for people or the environment.

Unfair trade rules are part of the problem, and Europe's policies are making things worse

New trade deals being negotiated by Europe will harm the poorest and most vulnerable people in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The new deals will:

  • Increase environmental exploitation.
  • Destroy jobs and local industries.
  • Undermine the livelihoods of small farmers.

For example, African governments are being pressured to lift restrictions on exports of raw materials.

The deals will give more rights to EU businesses to exploit their natural resources.

Changing how Europe trades

Developing countries must be given the power to manage trade so that it benefits people and the environment, not just big business.

Join with campaigners around the world to change the way Europe trades with developing countries.

Email the new EU Trade Commissioner Baroness Ashton and ask her to rethink Europe's trade policy.
