Working for climate justice

At the heart of climate justice is this idea: those most responsible for climate change are not most affected by it.

Rich countries have gained the most from polluting the atmosphere.

Yet the world's poorest people are hit hardest by global warming.

Friends of the Earth's International Climate campaign is urging rich countries to:

  • Take the lead on cutting carbon emissions - and to do it now
  • Cut carbon by making real changes at home - not by offsetting emissions abroad
  • Pay for poorer countries to adapt to the effects of climate change
  • Help poorer countries' develop their economies using clean, green technology

Better UK planning

Friends of the Earth is campaigning for planning laws that:

  • Listen properly to local views
  • Recognise that people and the environment are as important as economic growth
  • Promote low-carbon solutions such as renewable energy

Law in your hands

Friends of the Earth lawyers in our Rights & Justice Centre work to strengthen people's environmental rights.

They also help communities challenge bad environmental decisions.

We are working in Indonesia and Paraguay, for example, where people's jobs and ways of life are threatened by large-scale production of soy and palm oil.

Power Up

Every year Friends of the Earth runs a unique training weekend called Power Up.

This helps people understand the planning system and their legal rights to help improve where they live.

Take the bus

Did you know?

Between 1997 and 2008 the real cost of motoring fell by 13 per cent.

At the same time:

  • Bus and coach fares increased by 17 per cent
  • Rail fares increased by 7 per cent

Our Get Serious about CO2 campaign is pushing for improved public transport that's affordable for everyone.

We're also calling for schemes that make cycling and walking the obvious option for many.
