Our recent cases

Access to Information

We've acted in a number of successful cases, appealing the refusal to supply information in response to Freedom of Information requests.

These have resulted in the Government having to hand over information they'd chosen to withhold.

Setting the rules

Many local authorities make huge charges for copying documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act.

We persuaded the courts to rule for more reasonable costs (of 10p per sheet). Find out more by reading the tribunal's decision.

Transparency

In one of the most important recent cases on lobbying transparency, we persuaded the courts to order the full release of all records of lobby meetings between Government and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) in May 2008. Find out more.

Access to copies

We also won a case in the Information Tribunal and the High Court against the Export Credits Guarantee Department in March 2008.

We gained access to copies of documents about their decision to fund the Sakhalin Oil and Gas pipeline, a project that threatened the world's last Western Pacific Grey Whales with extinction. Find out more.
