Planning and rights15 February 2012
We campaign to defend and extend the public's right to participate in the planning system, working hard to improve planning law, policy and guidance at the international, national and regional levels.
UK wide
Friends of the Earth campaigns to ensure that planning policy delivers on sustainable development and protects your right to be heard in planning decisions.
England
The English planning system has hugely changed since the introduction of the Localism Act in 2011.
At a national level we are campaigning for the Government to recognise the need to live within our environmental limits through sustainable development.
At a regional level we are working to support sustainable development and campaigning against unsustainable development.
Wales
Wales has a different planning system to England.
We are campaigning for a fair, plan-led system that recognises environmental limits and the need to deliver on sustainable development.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland is going through a separate process of Planning Reform. The aim of the reform process is to streamline the planning system which the devolved administration views as a barrier to investment and economic growth.
A key concern is the proposal to remove the right to be heard at appeals.
