Ask your MP to toughen the Planning Bill11 September 2008
Thanks to our campaigning, the Government has amended the new Planning Bill so that it now includes climate change.
However, we're asking for this reference to be made stronger to properly tackle climate change.
A real consideration of climate change
But even with the new amendment, climate change doesn't need to be taken into account for deciding major new developments like:
- Roads
- Power stations
- Aiports
We think it raises serious concerns about how the UK will meet obligations to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and secure a low carbon future.
Making the right decisions
The new Planning Bill will be debated in Parliament in late November.
We need your help to make sure MPs express concerns about the new Bill.
Let's make the duties in the Bill stronger so that climate change is considered by:
- All National Policy Statements
- Major infrastructure decision-makers
Your MP's voice is crucial
We need your MP to take part in the Commons debate and let the Secretary of State know the importance of these issues to you.
Press for change
Write to your Member of Parliament asking them to put pressure on the Government to change the Planning Bill.
Your MP is needed in this debate. Please ask them to speak up for stronger considerations of climate change in the Bill.
