Show solidarity with Friends of the Earth Honduras
6 July 2009

Friends of the Earth International condemns the illegal expulsion of the Honduran President.

We stand in solidarity with Friends of the Earth Honduras and all the forces struggling for democracy in the country.

We are deeply worried about the current situation in the Republic of Honduras.

The illegal detention and expulsion of the constitutional President, Manual Zelaya, by the armed forces is unacceptable.

As are the arrest warrants issued to 25 members of civil society. This includes the leader of the peasants movement - La Via Campesina - in Honduras.

Friends of the Earth Honduras publicly supports the democratically elected President.

By doing so they face potential detention by the security forces.

We must defend the security of the members of Friends of the Earth Honduras.

Respect democracy

The entire international community must demand the return of the democratically elected President.

Friends of the Earth International invites citizens worldwide to protest and send letters to the embassies of Honduras.

Please write to the Honduran embassy in the UK.

Demand the restoration of the elected President and the unconditional respect for democracy.
