For centuries, the East of England has produced much of the UK's food and been a haven from London.

Now the region is showing signs of serious environmental stress. Yet there are plans for a massive increase in housing and related infrastructure.

Friends of the Earth is working on the following campaigns:

• Development masterplan
  The Government is proposing a level of development which will add to the environmental challenges we face.
• Climate change
  The region and its agriculture is on the frontline of climate change.
• Over-development
  More roads, ports and airports will add to environmental stress.
