Transport for London should go back to the drawing board,
and work with local people in a proper exercise to draw up various
options to establish what improved transport access would best help
people, and aid the regeneration of East and South East London.
It is far from clear that the claimed benefits of the Thames Gateway
Bridge are the best way forward.
-
Under no circumstances, given all of the above, should the Thames
Gateway Bridge be pushed ahead, as proposed by TfL and the Mayor,
through a Bill considered by a committee in Parliament, as this
would not allow sufficient scrutiny and public representation on
the merits or otherwise of the scheme. A proper public inquiry
would be an absolute minimum.
