  1. Transport for London should go back to the drawing board, and work with local people in a proper exercise to draw up various options to establish what improved transport access would best help people, and aid the regeneration of East and South East London. It is far from clear that the claimed benefits of the Thames Gateway Bridge are the best way forward.

  2. Under no circumstances, given all of the above, should the Thames Gateway Bridge be pushed ahead, as proposed by TfL and the Mayor, through a Bill considered by a committee in Parliament, as this would not allow sufficient scrutiny and public representation on the merits or otherwise of the scheme. A proper public inquiry would be an absolute minimum.
