Government ignores MPs and public opinion on GM crops

The Government has revealed that it will allow GM contamination of non-GM crops and food - including organic produce.

This is despite most people saying they want tough laws to prevent GM contamination.

These findings emerged from the Government's reply to a group of MPs' - the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee - report.

The reply raises a number of concerns about the Government's lack of support:

  • No commitment to zero GM contamination.
  • No support for GM-free local authorities.
  • Environmental liability won't be considered in the upcoming GM consultation.

Take action

Ask your MP to support tough new laws to prevent GM contamination by asking them to sign a parliamentary petition on GM (Early Day Motion 462).
