Campaigners mark end of ‘legally flawed' GM consultation

Campaigners from across the country gathered on 19 October to mark the end of the Government's GM coexistence consultation.

Thousands of others wrote to the Government to object to their proposals to allow routine GM contamination of our food and farming.

The demonstration in Westminster coincided with the publication of a new legal opinion stating that the Government's proposals are legally and "fundamentally flawed".

This was prepared for us by two of the UK's leading European law specialists. It sets out how and why the Government's proposals are not compatible with European law.

For example, their proposal to "minimise" GM contamination rather than "avoid" it is flawed and inconsistent with Community law.
