The Bee Cause in a garden
24 July 2013

Together we've persuaded the Government to create a Bee Action Plan.  In the coming months we'll be making sure it's good enough.  But Eastbourne has already taken a step in the right direction.

Friends of the Earth's Eastbourne and District group have done some fantastic work with their local council.

After a hugely successful film screening last summer, Eastbourne Borough Council made the decision to back the Bee Cause.

Celebrating success with the Bee Cause garden

The Bee Cause now features in a bee-friendly flower garden created by Eastbourne Council on the seafront (pictured below).

All of us in our group are thrilled that Eastbourne council has highlighted the Bee Cause in Eastbourne's famous and eye-catching carpet gardens on its iconic promenade. This shows how fruitful a relationship we have forged with the council in our quest to help save Britain's bees.

Over 20 bee-friendly sites have now been planted in Eastbourne, with many more planned.

Gareth Williams from Eastbourne Council said:

...this authority supports the Friends of the Earth Bee Cause initiative, and will continue to ensure that where suitable, all planting undertaken within the parks and gardens owned by the Council will support bee and other pollinating insects lifestyles.
