Swift action in Berkshire stops anti-wind motion
9 May 2012

Maidenhead Friends of the Earth recently stopped a council anti-wind motion.

Local group members discovered a proposal for an anti-wind motion at a local council meeting.

The motion urged the Government to stop further building of "ugly, expensive" wind turbines, which are "despoiling our beautiful countryside and just do not work".

When Maidenhead Friends of the Earth got wind of this motion (excuse the pun) they swung into action. The group emailed every councillor a copy of the Friends of the Earth briefing - wind power your questions answered.

Many councillors responded with thanks.

The motion was defeated by a close margin. But without the swift action of Maidenhead Friends of the Earth it could have been a different outcome.

It was a close run thing
