Port Talbot
Port Talbot is a town with one of Europe's largest steelworks directly adjacent to residential areas. The town, just East of Swansea, had some of the worst air quality levels in the country.
The levels of particulates allowed by European Union regulations, to safeguard public health, were being exceeded in Port Talbot despite complaints from local people
The Rights and Justice Centre worked with the local community by writing to the Welsh Government and Environment Agency Wales.
To avoid a legal challenge the Welsh Government drew up, consulted on and began the implementation of an action plan to improve air quality to bring pollutant levels below the EU limit.
