Introduction

Friends of the Earth undertakes research and policy development which we use to lobby policy-makers in business and the public sector.

Why does Friends of the Earth do research?

Our research allows Friends of the Earth to identify and oppose environmental problems, expose those responsible, propose solutions and empower personal and political action. It helps us link problems and solutions and fill in pieces of the complex jigsaw of policy and action needed to achieve sustainable development. It provides new and critical information, and reveals the bigger picture.

Our work ranges from long-term and wide ranging strategic research to more detailed studies of particular policy options. We deal with issues like trade and aid; employment and environmental policy; health impacts of environmental degradation; environmental taxes and regulation. We liaise and cooperate with many other environmental and development groups in the UK and around the world.
