About the petition

Friends of the Earth groups from all over the world have come together as Friends of the Earth International to build what will become our largest ever petition on climate change.

Why now?

2009 is a crucial year for climate activists and world leaders who will be making lasting decisions about limiting dangerous climate change at the Copenhagen summit in December.  We want to bring together activists from all over the world to demonstrate the breadth and strength of feeling on climate issues.  Our leaders and politicians must be told that we won’t accept another half-hearted agreement when they sit down to negotiate in Denmark

How did you decide what to ask for?

Policy experts from all over the Friends of the Earth federation discussed what we should be asking for from the Copenhagen agreement.  They looked at advice from climate scientists on what was needed to limit dangerous CO2 emissions.  They investigated what the loopholes were likely to be, such as offsetting.  They also explored what would be a fair outcome for world's poorest countries who are tragically feeling the worst effects of climate change.

What will you do with the petition?

We will deliver it to politicians and leaders in countries all around the world.  We’ll keep the blog updated when we do a delivery, so you follow the progress of the action (and the reactions to it).

What else can I do?

Take action with your national Friends of the Earth member group or work with Friends of the Earth International to put pressure on at Copenhagen.

Demand real action. Demand climate justice.

The Flood is Coming

If you can make it to Copenhagen during the summit, Friends of the Earth will be there taking action – please come and join us, to make our voice and yours even louder!
