REDD: The realities in black and white
Friends of the Earth International, November 2010
This report assesses the proposed scheme for reducing emissions by halting deforestation and forest degradation.
The name, Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degratation (REDD) holds out the attractive prospect of tackling climate change and conserving biodiversity.
It would also bring much-needed development finance to poor indigenous peoples and local forest-dwelling communities.
At the same time, it's offering significant profits to investors.
The question is - is REDD too good to be true?
