Climate talks in Panama - October 20117 October 2011
Governments came together in Panama for their last meeting before the climate summit in Durban, South Africa in December.
Critical issues need to be addressed if the negotiations are to be successful.
Facing impacts
- Latest figures by the United Nations show the world is heading towards up to 5 degrees warming - with devastating impacts for people and the planet.
- The poorest people in the world are already being hit by climate change.
- Rich developed countries are providing little or nothing to help those being affected.

Back on track
To ensure the success in South Africa in December, developed countries need to commit to:
- legally binding emissions cuts in line with climate science,
- closing dangerous carbon offsetting loopholes,
- expand finance and technology commitments to developing countries.
We'll be working hard for an agreement in South Africa where rich country emissions targets are set fairly and in line with science, and dangerous loopholes closed.
This is the only way we can begin to tackle catastrophic climate change.
