Time to fix the food chain9 April 2009
What's wrong with the food chain?
The global meat and dairy industry is out of control.
Increasing amounts of land, water and chemical inputs are needed to produce meat and dairy at the expense of forests, greenhouse gas emissions and livelihoods.
For most people it is a revelation that animals producing meat and dairy in the UK are reared on feed containing imported soy.
Most of this soy is grown in South America at the expense of rich natural habitats and the climate. We need to show how people and farmers are unwittingly caught in this unsustainable system - and inspire them to want to change it.
What do we want to change?
The Food Chain Campaign is about achieving long-lasting political change.
There is no simple silver bullet that will fix the food chain. But we have identified a range of policy solutions which together will achieve real change.
You can find more details about these solutions in our What's feeding our food? report.
How can local groups get involved?
If you want to take the bull by the horns and campaign to fix the food chain please take a look at our campaign guides and materials.
These will tell you everything you need to know about how to get involved with the summer of action and beyond.
