Localism Act
12 January 2012

The Government's Localism Act is set to radically change the planning framework for local communities by introducing neighbourhood planning.

The planning system has a huge impact on the places where we live and on decisions from your high street to the development of a nuclear power station.

What did we campaign for?

Friends of the Earth campaigned for an amendment to the Localism Bill to ensure that planning helps deliver sustainable development.

While we didn't get an amendment to the Bill, the Communities and Local Government Select Committee report recommends a definition of sustainable development, that we support, that says that we need to live within environmental limits.
