Street and door-to-door fundraising
Local group success stories22 February 2011
Sometimes, fundraising teams coordinate their activity with a local group if they're working in the same area or at the same event.
If your group's attending an event and you think that our fundraising teams might be there, contact your Network Developer.
Here are 2 local groups who worked with our fundraising teams:
Guildford and Waverley Friends of the Earth had a stall at the Wings and Wheels festival in Dunsfold in summer 2009.
We were trying to get biofuels postcards signed and one of the Friends of the Earth fundraising teams was there with us. The fundraisers were exceptionally good at intercepting members of the public. For us, it was very important to have them there, as we could watch their technique and learn from it.
In June 2010, Friends of the Earth fundraisers worked with East Kent Friends of the Earth at the Canterbury Climate Fair. The aim was to re-launch the Canterbury local group and to build support for the Fix the Food Change campaign, collecting signatures on a petition to the local MP.
The day was very successful. The fundraisers managed to get several people signed up to support Friends of the Earth financially, plus over 70 signatures were collected on the petition and 40 people showed their interest in getting involved in the re-launched group. With the fundraisers roaming around the fair, they were able to talk to a wide range of individuals and direct them back to the group's stall for more information on the campaigns and local group.
It was great to be able to work directly with the street fundraisers and get a better understanding of what they do. And they really helped us raise the profile locally and recruit new members. If we do a similar event in the future, I will definitely get in touch with them again.
