Planning

The planning system impacts on everything around us. It shapes where we live, where we shop, where we work and we get there.

But planning processes often don't consider the needs of communities and the environment.

Planning affects everything around us.

Unfair planning?

Examples of where the planning system is failing are:

  • New supermarkets
Replace existing community facilities like schools and markets.
  • Housing developments
Often priced out of the reach of local people.
  • Building standards
New buildings aren't built to maximise energy savings.

Did you know? Over half of Britain's poorest households live in the areas with the most traffic, accidents and pollution.

The existing planning system can leave people feeling lost in a complicated process that seems rigged against them.

A new supermarket could be proposed, developed and built near you without you having a say. You want to walk to work or school, but you don't know how to make the route safer or easier by making it clear what you need.

One solution is to make sure local people's voices are properly heard.
