Greener Farming

Farming has shaped the scenery of Wales. Greener farming is a vital way to:

  • protect wildlife
  • enhance the landscape
  • support rural communities.

Friends of the Earth Cymru supports both organic agriculture and other types of farming which protect rural communities and the environment.

At a time of falling farm incomes, it is clear that Wales cannot produce meat, dairy products or crops at a price that is competitive on the world market.

Friends of the Earth Cymru would like to see:

  • more support for organic farming
  • more support for wildlife and landscape protection schemes
  • greater commitment to rural diversification and new jobs created in tourism and recreation
  • people in rural areas making more profits by "adding value" to the things they produce (eg by selling cheese instead of milk)
  • more jobs created in projects, such as wind farms and wood burning power stations producing green electricity.
