The National Assembly for WalesSome GM crops can only be planted in Wales with the permission of the National Assembly for Wales. The Assembly has a policy of opposing the planting of GM crops in Wales unless they are proved to be safe. This policy, drafted and campaigned for by Friends of the Earth Cymru, has ensured that there have been no (legal) plantings of GM oilseed rape or beet in Wales since 1998. Although, some GM crops can be planted in Wales without the Assembly's consent, it is possible for the Assembly to control planting if it has good evidence that they will damage human health or the environment.
