Road Schemes

Major transport campaigns in Wales include:

M4 Relief Road

A highly expensive £350 million, 14 mile, 3 lane motorway across several highly designated countryside areas (Sites of Special Scientific Interest)

Current Status
Listed in long-term Assembly Road Programme while awaiting multi-modal studies along M4 corridor across England which is due to report this year.

Campaign Objectives
Road should not be built, similar scale of investment should be invested in public transport along south Wales transport corridors and possible upgrading of existing M4 road corridor.

Possible A40 St Clears-Haverfordwest dualling

A 20 mile partly on-line upgrade of the current single carriage way costing at least £60 million.

Current Status
Carriage way standard to be decided within 18 months by Assembly.

Campaign Objectives
Improved single-carriageway including bypass at Robeston-Wathen. Budget allocation saved to fund public transport infrastructure and services and direct investment in local economy.

Current Status
Various upgrading schemes and some bypasses proposed

Campaign Objectives
Moderate on-line road upgrading and safety improvements, plus express rail and trans-national coach services.
