Keep Wales GM free6 November 2002
Thanks to campaigning by Friends of the Earth Cymru and others no GM crops were grown in Wales in 2002.
However the next six months is a crucial time for the future of GM crops in Wales. The National Assembly for Wales is about to make some important decisions which could stop GM crops being grown in Wales.
Friends of the Earth Cymru with the Farmers Union of Wales, the National Federation of Women's Institutes - Wales and GM free Cymru have launched a campaign to keep Wales GM free.
The campaign calls for the Assembly to:
- Block the commercial growing of GM crops.
- Put in place tough new rules governing the
planting of GM crops. - Protect the public's right to raise concerns of
GM safety and environmental issues. - Set up a Welsh advisory committee to give
independent scientific advice on the release
of GM crops. - Exclude Wales from European wide marketing of GM crops.
Press for change
Tell Mike German the Welsh Agriculture Minister to keep Wales GM free.
