Friends of the Earth Board Member with Financial Skills2 June 2009
Voluntary role
Friends of the Earth is currently seeking a new Trustee who can provide strategic financial advice to the Board, support fellow Board members in their governance role and has the experience to deliver guidance and support to the finance team.
Board members volunteer their time for Friends of the Earth, but reasonable expenses are met in full. The rewards come from helping steer the UK's most influential, and award-winning, environmental campaigning organisation.

The Friends of the Earth Strategic Plan 2008-13 sets out the goal for bringing about change in the most vital and urgent issues facing our planet: climate and biodiversity. The organisation believes that to bring about the urgent changes in policy and practice, and to hold decision makers at all levels to account it will need to build broader societal support and a strong and active movement for change.
Friends of the Earth is 87% funded by individual supporters and raises £10M per annum in donations and grants.
Friends of the Earth is currently seeking a new Trustee who can provide strategic financial advice to the Board, support fellow Board members in their governance role and has the experience to deliver guidance and support to the finance team.
It is expected that the new trustee will have:
- Senior level financial experience in practice, charity, NGO or a commercial organisation
- The ability to take a long term strategic view of Friends of the Earth's financial situation
- A good understanding of the governance role of a Trustee
- A measured approach to investment and risk
- A passion for the environment
- A mature and balanced outlook
- The ability to work as part of the Board Team
- Time available to devote to this voluntary role (3 -4 days per quarter)
