GM trial - Public Meeting cancelled

Friends of the Earth (FOE) Cymru has reluctantly cancelled its public meeting on the GM situation in Wales as nobody responsible for the GM trial in Sealand is prepared to attend and defend it. The Agriculture Secretary, the local Assembly Member Tom Middlehurst and DETR (the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions) have all said they cannot attend the meeting.

FOE Cymru had arranged a public meeting for Monday the 24th in Sealand to allow local residents to put their questions to Assembly Members and the DETR. As none of them will attend the meeting, FOE Cymru says it would be pointless to continue.

Raoul Bhambral, GM Campaigner for FOE Cymru said,

" It is very disappointing that no-one involved would come to defend the trial. Local residents will have to wait longer for their concerns to be addressed. However, it seems that the Assembly is making genuine progress towards organising it's own meeting. We look forward to hearing more details about it, especially a date! "
