Councillors urged to act on mobile phone mast fears

Concerns about the possible health impacts of mobile phone masts are justified and should be acted upon. This is the message which Friends of the Earth is giving to Pembrokeshire's County Councillors in advance of today's seminar on mobile phone masts at County Hall, Haverfordwest.

The group has sent a briefing paper to all county councillors in Pembrokeshire pointing out the growing concern amongst scientists about potential health effects.

Bleddyn Lake of Friends of the Earth Cymru, said:

"People in Pembrokeshire who live close to mobile phone transmitter masts are right to be worried about possible health impacts. We are urging the councillors to adopt a precautionary approach which would keep these masts a safe distance from schools, hospitals and residential areas."

Friends of the Earth Cymru is writing to all local authorities in Wales urging them to adopt the recommendation of the Local Government Association that precautionary policies ought to be followed.
