Welsh greenhouse gas emissions increased by 8% between 2009 and 2010, according to a report published today[1]. Scotland's emissions increased by 7%, Northern Ireland's by 4% and England's by just 2%. Friends of the Earth Cymru has described the results as 'disastrous'.

Gareth Clubb, Director of Friends of the Earth Cymru, said:

"These emissions figures take us back to where we were in 2002. We've lost 8 years in the fight to stop dangerous climate change. It's disastrous.  Wales is at the bottom of the pack when it comes to fighting climate change.

"But worse still, it's clear proof that the green economy - the only hope for the future - is truly floundering. The Welsh Government needs to do some serious thinking if its 3% emissions reduction target is to make it anything other than a laughing stock."
