Climate change in the East Midlands 24 June 2008
Climate Change is a global concern but it will also have dramatic impacts in the East Midlands if we don't take action to tackle it now.
Independent research by the UK Climate Impacts Programme found climate change could cause:
- Changes in agriculture
Lincolnshire is one of Britain's prime agricultural counties eg it provides one third of the UK's flowers and bulbs. Water stress will threaten this business. - Lost of coastline
The sea level on the East coast is expected to rise up to 83 cm by the 2050s. - Loss of important habitats
Derbyshire peat bogs will struggle to adapt to rising temperatures.

East Midlands Friends of the Earth has joined with other groups to form a local climate network called Climate Action Network Nottinghamshire (CANN).
This coalition will advise the general public on the most effective forms of action to help combat climate change.
