Regional policy in the East Midlands 24 June 2008
Why it matters
The Government is currently finalising the policies that will decide and shape the region's future.
This includes what can and can't be built in the East Midlands.
The role of the plan - also known as the East Midlands Plan - is to guide the way the region develops over the next 15-20 years.
All local councils in the region will have to abide by its content when they make plans for and decisions about their area.
Key issues in the RSS that we are focusing on are:
- Unsustainable Housing Growth
Nottingham's Green Belt is under threat from housing eg 5,000 new homes are proposed in Clifton South. - Transport
Expansion plans at East Midlands Airport could mean that 10,000 people are affected by aircraft noise. - Climate Change
Rising temperatures could result in the arable land of Lincolnshire suffering serious water stress.
