Regional policy in London

Why it matters

the future of development

The Mayor of London's masterplan for London's future is being updated.

The London Plan will cover all aspects of London life from housing and transport to climate change and the economy.

We support the Mayor's stated vision of London becoming a sustainable world city. Turning this vision into reality will take major changes to the way London works and is run.

Following a public hearing, an independent Panel reviewed the updated Plan.

The Mayor will have to take into account the Panel's views before he submits the Plan for government approval.

Key dates for the completion of the London Plan

July 2007 Examination in Public closed.
October 2007 Panel report published.
Early 2008 Final report published.

Under new laws, the Mayor will be producing new strategies on Climate Change and Energy, Housing and Health Inequalities. These will inform future versions of the London Plan.

We will be tracking the development of these new strategies to ensure that they take account of the needs of people and the environment.
