The 2012 Olympic Games

The International Olympic Committee has required London 2012 to be the first summer Games to include sustainability in its plans.

What will the ecological footprint of the London Olympics be like?

London’s bid includes a commitment for an independent assessment on the sustainability of the Games. This will be undertaken by the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012.

Concerns around the Games include:

  • Who will pay for the games
We say Londoners should help pay but not be saddled with huge debts.
  • Loss of green space and allotments
Which should instead be made part of the experience.
  • The effects on local communities
    Ensuring local people really benefit.
  • The effects on local businesses
Using the Games to help businesses in the area.
